Carrie Young, Director

Carrie has taught private and group lessons to string students for the past 29 years. She started playing the violin when she joined orchestra in 4th grade and soon after began private lessons. She continued playing through high school and received a music scholarship to Ricks College where she participated in concert orchestra under the direction of Dr. Kevin Call. Since then, she has participated in orchestras and quartets at Utah State University as well as Pocatello, ID, Soda Springs, ID and Logan, UT.
Carrie graduated from Utah State University with a BA in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Gifted/Talented. She organized and taught at Jefferson Academy in Kaysville, UT for 5 years then started OrchestraAdventures.com to reach more students. In 2011, along with her associate and good friend,
Jennifer Sova, Carrie helped to organize the Utah Charter School Orchestra Festival. In 2011, Carrie and Jennifer started the first Summer Strings Adventure Camp in Kaysville, UT.
She is currently the programs director for Riverton Music managing and teaching band and orchestra classes in elementary schools throughout Weber School District, Charter Schools and Granite School district.
Her favorite activities include family movie night, baking, sewing, kayaking, creating new ideas, visiting family and friends, and going on dates with her husband.
Reva Paget, Violin

Reva Paget is a violinist dedicated to bringing alternative styles to the forefront of traditional string education. From her roots as a young classical violinist, she has embraced improvisation in rock, jazz, fiddle, blues, Celtic, and a myriad of styles from around the world. Reva holds an bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance from the University of North Texas, an master’s degree in Violin Performance Pedagogy from Arizona State University, and is certified in the Suzuki method.
Reva performs at festivals and venues across the United States, with 5 released albums of traditional and original Scottish and Irish music as a member of Celtic folk groups the BorderCollies and the BlarneyGirls.
As a private teacher, she has a passion for encouraging students to use their instruments to create their own music inspired by great performers and traditional repertoire. She is married to her husband and guitarist Jared, and loves being mother to their 3 brilliant and musical children.

Ryan Kemp, Viola

Mr. Kemp graduated from Weber State University in 1992 with a BA in Music Education graduated from Lesley University in Boston with a M. Ed technology in education in 2010.
He plays viola and loves to sing. He is currently the assistant principal violist with the New American Philharmonic and the Chamber Orchestra Ogden. He has also played viola for several string quartets since college. Previously he sang with the Vocal Chords, Sound of Mind, and Quadravox Barbershop Quartet. Vocal Chords won the Novice Quartet award in 1994, Sound of Mind placed 2nd in the 2000 Rocky Mountain Quartet Competition, and QuadraVox won the 2003 Rocky Mountain District Quartet Competition. Ryan teaches orchestra at Shoreline and Centennial Jr. High Schools in Davis District.
His other hobbies include crocheting, reading and traveling. He married his sweetheart Melodee Hunt in March of 2002. He has two stepdaughters, a son and a daughter.

Rachel Rooker, Cello

Rachel has been reading music as long as she has been reading words. Her parents decided to start her on piano at the age of 5, and cello at the age of 9 in 4th grade. She never looked back! She started private cello lessons in 5th grade and has been a music student ever since. She attended BYU, Ricks College, and Utah State University, obtaining a degree in Music Therapy, and later receiving a Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University.
After college, she taught in the Ricks College Music Department, in the public schools in Boise as an orchestra teacher, and in Granite District, also as an orchestra teacher. In addition to teaching school in Boise, Rachel stayed busy teaching lessons to 40 private cello students.
She currently teaches 4th grade in the Granite School District in Salt Lake City, teaches a before school orchestra program, and maintains a private cello studio. Rachel thoroughly enjoys sharing her passion for music and music learning with her students.
